Celebrate the Official Trail Opening with the Sparta Area Chamber Of Commerce
The Sparta Area Chamber is hosting a bike ride from Norwalk to Sparta
Sparta, WI – The Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to share the Elroy-Sparta Trail opening on May 1st. The trail turns 50 this year, marking the anniversary of the first rail to trail conversion in the United States. You are invited to join us at 8:30am on May 1st at the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 111 Milwaukee St in Sparta for coffee and cookies while we load up your bicycles. At 9:30am, we will shuttle to Norwalk, Wisconsin and unload the bicycles for the ride back to the Sparta Depot. The trail is only 11 miles and goes through an old railroad tunnel that is almost one mile long.
Once everyone returns, or at 12pm, there will be an official ribbon cutting with a guest speaker, John Medinger, from the office of Senator Tammy Baldwin. There will also be an information booths sponsored by the Wisconsin Bike Fed, Mayo Health Systems, as well as an information display of the trail and the wildlife that you can see along it. Refreshments and a light lunch will be served following the ceremony.
We are really looking forward to seeing you enjoy a bike ride on the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail. Please call and get on the list, so we can make sure we have enough seats for the shuttle.
You must provide your own bike, or you can rent one from Speed’s Bicycle Shop (269-2315)!
